About Me

Hello, my name is Ms. Sam — and to the children I work with, that’s exactly who I am: Miss Sam.

I am a Montessori educator, lifelong learner, and I advocate for child-centered education, with decades of hands-on experience supporting children from age 3 through the end of elementary school. My journey into Montessori education began not only as a professional calling, but as a deeply personal one.

My Montessori Journey

Montessori education was founded on the belief that peace can be created through the child — a philosophy introduced by Dr. Maria Montessori after World War I. That belief continues to guide everything I do today.

My own Montessori path began in the United Kingdom, when I struggled to find the right learning environment for my young son. In traditional settings, he was unhappy and overwhelmed. Then one day, I walked into a Montessori classroom — and watched him calmly choose work from a shelf, sit down, and engage with focus and joy. That moment changed my life.

I went on to earn my Montessori credentials from the International Montessori Centre in London. Then I opened and supported Montessori schools in England, and later brought my expertise to the United States. Since then, I have helped establish and support Montessori programs throughout the Coachella Valley, particularly at the elementary level — an area where Montessori educators are increasingly difficult to find.

Experience Beyond the Classroom

My work goes far beyond traditional teaching.

For over 16 years, I have volunteered as a youth soccer coach/division director, with AYSO, using movement, teamwork, and outdoor play as powerful tools for child development. I am also an avid hiker, runner, and outdoor enthusiast, and I intentionally incorporate nature, sunshine, and physical activity into my daily routines with children.

One of the most meaningful chapters of my career involved working with a deaf and hard-of-hearing child with a small group of children, for the last 6 1/2 years. I learned American Sign Language (ASL) to deliver all lessons accessibly, adapted Montessori materials to meet his needs, and supported his full inclusion in both academics and community activities — including soccer. This experience reinforced my belief that every child is capable, adaptable, and deserving of independence when given the right environment.

Gems of the Earth Montessori Academy

Today, I am proud to offer a licensed, home-based Montessori program in Cathedral City through Gems of the Earth Montessori Academy. I intentionally keep class sizes small to ensure each child receives careful observation, individualized guidance, and a thoughtfully prepared environment.

My program serves children ages 3–11, operates like a small private school, and follows authentic Montessori principles across all learning areas — practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics, culture, music, and outdoor education.

Parents are always welcome. Transparency, communication, and partnership are central to my work. Families receive progress updates, have access to classroom observations, and are invited to share their skills and talents with our learning community.

My Philosophy

I believe that:

  • Children learn best when they feel respected, capable, and safe
  • Independence builds confidence
  • Mistakes are part of learning — no one is perfect
  • Education should nurture the whole child: mind, body, and heart

My goal is not only to educate children academically, but to help them grow into dependable, compassionate, confident adults.

If you are seeking a Montessori guide who brings experience, warmth, structure, and genuine care to your child’s education, I would be honored to meet your family.
